Understand the role: read the posting, keep three skills
Everything starts with the job posting. Read it slowly, twice: once to understand the mission, once to spot the words that come back. Those words say what the company is really looking for, far better than a job title.
Then keep three skills, no more. Three skills well illustrated are worth more than ten mentioned in passing. For each one, ask yourself three questions:
- What question could a recruiter ask me on this subject?
- Which example from my career demonstrates it?
- Which result can I cite, and how do I explain it in two sentences?
If the posting is vague, look at the company's page, its products, its recent publications. You do not need to know everything: it is enough to understand the context in which you would be working.
Gather your material: CV, projects, results you measured yourself
Gather what you will need: your up-to-date CV, the list of your recent projects, your achievements with their results. If a result includes a figure, make it your own: one you measured or observed, and can explain without hesitation.
Then sort this material by skill. The same project can feed several answers: note each time the angle that changes. This step looks administrative; it is what saves you from searching for words under pressure.
With ALDO, these documents are prepared in your web space, and the suggested answers draw on them and cite their source. The clearer your material, the more precise the answer.
Build your stories in the STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Result)
The STAR format puts a story in order. It keeps the listener on track and stops you from getting lost in details.
- Situation: the context, in one sentence.
- Task: what was expected of you.
- Action: what you did, you, concretely.
- Result: what changed, and what you took from it.
Aim for about one minute out loud per story. Prepare five or six, each tied to one of your three skills; you will adapt them to the question asked.
For behavioral questions, ALDO can suggest its answers in the STAR format, at the length you choose.
Practice out loud
Rereading your notes is not enough: speaking has its own rhythm. Rehearse your stories out loud, alone or in front of someone close, and time yourself. You will spot the sentences that are too long and the transitions that are missing.
ALDO offers free practice in the application before your first session: it is a chance to get used to the window and to try a first exchange with nothing at stake.
Vary the conditions: standing, sitting, on the phone, on a video call. The more you rehearse in different situations, the more at ease you will be when the time comes.
The day itself: audio ready, you keep the floor
Before the interview, check your setup: microphone, headset, connection, lighting. Open your documents and keep a glass of water within reach.
During the conversation, let the question finish, breathe, then answer in your own words. If you use ALDO, the AI suggests and you decide: the opening sentence appears first and you start speaking while the key points arrive. You can mute the microphone or pause capture at any time.
A suggested answer is a support, not a text to recite: rephrase it, add your example, keep your style. It is your voice the recruiter needs to hear.
Afterwards: note the questions asked and what worked
Within the hour, note the questions asked, the ones that surprised you and the answers that hit home. These notes will feed your next interview.
ALDO keeps a summary of each session in your history, with the questions and the points discussed: reread it with a clear head.
Finally, remember to thank your interviewer with a short message. It is a mark of professionalism, and a chance to come back to a point you would have liked to clarify.
